A law enforcement supervisor's job is complex and requires many skills. The supervisor must achieve the organization's mission and objectives while balancing the interests of the organization against the rights of the staff and those of the persons with whom the staff must deal.
This three-day course defines the supervisor and examines some of the essential skills that a supervisor must possess.
A significant part of a supervisor’s job is dealing with the legal issues that arise. Just as a supervisor’s value is determined by the output of those under his/her command, the supervisor’s liability also is incurred through the actions of his/her subordinates. Therefore it is important to communicate effectively, understand the responsibilities and recognize the signs that indicate potential trouble. It is equally important to act in a timely manner to address issues in their earliest stages to limit the exposure to liability.
A supervisor’s job consists of many tasks that encompass the entire area of his/her responsibility. It is important to have a clear understanding of that area of responsibility and all of its associated task.
